Not fewer than four vehicles and other property belonging to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were destroyed in an alleged revenge attack by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gona town of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The attack happened when a convoy of the APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya was on its way to Billiri for a campaign rally.
THISDAY checks revealed that the APC supporters, accompanied by their gubernatorial candidate, were in possession of dangerous weapons.
According to a reliable source, the APC supporters stopped at Gona on their way to Billiri and without any provocation, they started destroying valuable properties belonging to the PDP in the area.
He said the four vehicles belonging to the PDP members, including one belonging to a personal assistant to Governor Dankwambo were attacked, while many shops, posters and billboards on the road were also burnt down.
The source alleged that the incident could be a revenge mission following a recent attack on the APC gubernatorial candidate when he held a meeting with senior officials of the APC in his residence in Gombe.
Hoodlums alleged to have been sponsored by PDP, attacked the APC gubernatorial candidate’s residence and destroyed five vehicles, APC billboards and posters.
It was also alleged that the hoodlums manhandled the security detail to the gubernatorial candidate.
When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, confirmed the incident but promised to brief the press on the true nature of the attack after investigations have been concluded.
