Enugu: Our quarrel with Chime over Ugwuanyi — Ezegwu

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Senate candidate for Enugu North Senatorial Constituency, Chief Willy Ezugwu, in this interview, speaks on the struggle between his party and Governor Sullivan Chime over the adoption of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the next governor of the state among other issues. Excerpts:

What inspired your bid for the Senate?
My people have been short changed by their representatives for the past 16 years of PDP rule in the zone. Our representatives have proven that they were not elected but appointed by the powers that be. That is why they keep denying the zone the basic amenities entitled to it.
The House of Representatives member representing my own constituency was sitting on the mandate without the peoples consent and that is why he owes no one any apology for whatever he does with the mandate.
Like my opponent in PDP who has been in government for years and has nothing to show for it. The comparison is clear, look at Enugu North senatorial zone in its entirety, all our representatives at the National Assembly have failed.

They cannot point at any projects as their achievements and this is why I asked for a change of credibility, integrity and accountability for positive representation.
Presently, there is confusion and change has come to us because of the failure on the party that has ruled us for 16 years to have a harmonious primary election. PDP in Enugu state in now in disarray, they conducted three different primaries for the governorship position.
I cannot remember attending any town hall meeting organized by any of our NASS members. No one has organized any such in the past years of PDP rule in the zone.
The overall assessment of our NASS members is zero, they cannot point at any project they executed in any part in of  zone.
What is your relationship with the senator representing your zone?
My relationship with Senator Ayogu Eze is cordial but would have been better if he had given the zone qualitative representation by way of bringing development to our area. Presently, he is contesting the governorship primary election in which he allegedely lost. He is not my opponent in the March28, 2015 general election but were he to be, I would have easily coasted home with landslide victory.
What are your chances of winning?
Remember that I have never held any political office before now but as a grassroots politician my chances of winning the senatorial zone are high and with APGA as my party, and judging with performances of incumbent Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra State and former Peter Obi my people can’t wait to cast their votes for me.
My experience in politics and in charity work is what this senatorial zone needs to advance in terms of infrastructural development which the zone presently lacks. I will sponsor bills which will help alleviate the sufferings of the entire citizens of this country and turn around our standard of living.
