He disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during the presentation of 10-year situation report of federal government teaching hospitals, jointly held with presentation of the post Ebola Virus Disease containment plan and the NHIS mobile and pupils insurance programme.
According to Jonathan, the initiative is government’s move to widen access to health insurance through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which will result in higher demand for services in public hospitals, adding that with more communities benefiting from health insurance, the country will record better health outcomes.
Jonathan who was represented at the event by the minister of Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, also expressed optimism that Nigeria is committed to preventing a re-occurrence of the Ebola disease outbreak.
He said, “You will recall that in pursuit of government’s commitment to provide quality health care to Nigerians, the National Health Insurance Scheme was launched in 2006.
