Senator hopes to become Senate President

 Senator Bukola Saraki.

Senator Bukola Saraki has officially expressed his desire to be nominated Nigeria’s Senate President.
Saraki, a former Kwara State Governor, revealed his interest in the position on Thursday, April 23, 2015.
I'm hopeful at the possibility of being nominated as Senate President of 8th Assembly. I appreciate your prayers & tweets of encouragement,” he said via Twitter.

The contest for leadership of the Senate is said to be between Saraki, former governor of Benue State and Senate Minority Leader, George Akume, and Barnabas Gemade, a former National Chairman of the PDP.
However, Saraki is being pegged as the strongest candidate due to the fact that both Akume and Gemade are from Benue State, which has occupied the position through current President, David Mark for the past eight years.
Mark is expected to vacate the position due to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) loss of majority in the upper house following the recently held general elections.
